U.S. Department of StateA citizen of a foreign country, wishing to enter the U.S., generally must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. The U.S. Department of State is the lead U.S. foreign affairs agency and is in charge of issuing traveling visas to the United States.
